Byrd & street
” …real Americana with integrity & soul… a blend that shines”
Four-time nominees for Texas Music Awards (2009, 2012, and 2014) and three- time Kerrville Festival New Folk finalists, Byrd & Street’s songs have been recorded by other artists, including Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary.
Before Byrd & Street, Tommy Byrd played with the Geezinslaws, sang harmony on a Willie Nelson recording, was under contract with Stax Record in Memphis and won numerous songwriting awards, including the Song of Austin.
Kathy Street sang with various folk and pop groups, a sisters’ quartet and performed in musicals and cabarets. As a duo, Tommy‘s “intelligent well-executed guitar playing” and his soulful voice is a perfect and rare blend with Kathy’s sweet, ethereal harmony.
True Americana-Country folk blues with sweet, shuffly guitars and drums and a stellar guy — girl vocal exchange. music touching life and love all done in a bluesy, Americana vein.
Smooth tones, a relaxed style and no fuss vocals. While Byrd and Street weave their magic, a tight band of fiddles, mandolin, accordion, piano, drums and bass makes stable harmony. The musicianship here is top—drawer. Tommy Byrd writes a good tune. There’s no struggle to make or force a story line; Byrd just lets it flow. Kathy Street, mellow and warm plays her part with a blend that shines on the easily understood tale of first kisses on a front porch, kids in their Sunday best, angry words forgiven here and hands held tight in grace… as heard on Just an Old House. An album of original music touching life and love, all done in a bluesy, Americana vein, Tommy Byrd and Kathy Street share an appealing formula.
